What To Consider When Choosing Your Next Computer

If it’s time for a PC upgrade, then you don’t want to rush the process. It would be foolish to blow a big lump of cash on a device that simply isn’t right for you. Make sure you consider exactly how you will use your computer before picking a new model.

Laptop Or Desktop

For most people, a laptop is the best option. It’s easier to carry around and simply more convenient. However, some people may want a desktop for their greater size. They can incorporate a bigger monitor, a full-sized keyboard, and a larger, more powerful processor.

Are You A Gamer?

If you’re buying a computer primarily to play games, then you will want a model with a powerful graphics card and 8GB or more of RAM. You will also want a powerful CPU. The latest games are always heavy on system requirements.

Keyboard Quality

If you’re going to be using your computer for work, such as typing up documents, then you will want a nice keyboard. Make sure it’s backlit (so that you can see if caps lock is “on” or “off” etc.). You should also consider the key depth and how they feel to the touch. When at the store, don’t be afraid to give the keyboard a whirl.

Some keyboards simply feel plastic and flimsy. They are best avoided.

Portability

If you plan to carry your computer around with you, such as to class, work, or a café, then you will want a portable laptop. A screen size of about 12-14 inches is best. Also, look for a weight of under 5 pounds.

Don’t forget about battery life. Chances are you won’t always have an accessible power point. Luckily many models have battery lives of 5 hours or more.

Will It Be Out Of Date Soon?

Software is changing rapidly. What may work perfectly on a  new computer may struggle on an older model. If you have your eyes set on a model that is three or more years old, then you may experience compatibility problems in the not-too-distant future. You’re better off purchasing a PC which is it newer, even if it costs more.

You should also view homepage of a good news site to keep up to date with the latest tech news and to see what new PCs are coming out soon.

Is There A Sale?

Computers aren’t cheap so try and avoid paying full price. Hunt around both online and in store for the best deal. Even if you have to choose a model that isn’t exactly what you wanted, it might be worth it if you can save hundreds.

You may even be able to pick up a discount on a display model.

Final Thoughts

Everyday you will spend multiple hours on your computer, so it pays to choose the right one. Consider your needs and budget. Don’t forget to pay attention to the finer details. For example, a flimsy keyboard or poor battery life could frustrate you every time you surf the web.
