3 activities that will build up your confidence

Have you recently lost your job? Bereaved or heartbroken? Spinning out of control? Major emotional upheavals are incredibly damaging to your self-esteem, making you want to indulge daily in a pity party for one. Building your confidence requires time, effort and changes to your behavioural patterns; let me be clear, there are no quick fixes no matter what the experts tell you. One thing is certain though, the only person you should be improving your confidence for is you.

While striking an inner balance is beneficial, the transformative power of sport has the ability to challenge your mind, refine your body and temper your soul. Once your initial goals are done and accomplished, the sense of pride, relief and invigoration will be palpable; you will be tired, sweaty, a bit over it, but reaching that point will prove you can achieve anything you set your mind to.

Scuba Diving

Diving into the unknown and immersing yourself into an environment that differs from your own is one of the most challenging things a human can do. The underwater life is a world that moves at its own pace; the fish aren’t in a rush to get to their 9am meeting with the shark and the dolphins are quite content frolicking amongst the waves. Scuba diving enlivens your emotions and inspires a sense of harmony with others and your environment. It increases your awareness and mindfulness, inducing feelings of exhilaration, tranquillity and wonder as you float above the bottom of the ocean ground.

Sky Diving

Sky diving is one of those activities that creates an enormous adrenaline rush. Do you want to conquer your fears and send them over the edge? Once the hatch opens, it’s just you, the sky, the wind and the earth – you’re weightless, your knees are liquid and your legs jelly, but the final leap in yours. And then, you’re falling and flying, it’s pure freedom and you are not going to be thinking of anything but the moment you are in right now. It has this amazing knack of reprogramming your mind and body, in that moment you are a different person – a person who is focus is enhanced, whose senses are enlightened and once it’s all over, the rush will stay with you forever.

Boxing

Boxing requires a lot of hard work and discipline; it’s an extremely challenging sport that tests your limitations as you not only have to overcome physical barriers, but mental ones as well. If you have goals you wish to achieve, then boxing is a fool-proof way to reach them. This is because you are solely responsible for your success – and failure, there is no one else to rely on, no team to give credit to, and it’s just you, the gloves and the bag. If learning to box is on your bucket list, check out Mick Simmons Sport Australia for a fantastic range of gear to get you started.

Without self-confidence, we have the tendency to make poor decisions and we live out of fear rather than what’s best for us. If you’re lacking in confidence, it’s time to ditch cruise control and kick life into gear.
