Christmas Market Season Begins in Europe

The enchanting Christmas Market season has just started! Wherever you go in Europe, you can surely experience a Christmas Market that you will never forget! I hope you already booked your trip to the most enchanting and most enjoyable festive season of the  year!

Some of your might be questioning the advent of Christmas Market. How and where did it start? These markets are now being held in many countries but it is said that these Christmas Markets  originated in  the German-speaking countries like in Germany, Austria, Alsace in France and South Tirol.

The Christmas Market, also known as Christkindlesmarkt, Christkindlmarket, Weihnachtsmarkt and Christkindlmarkt is a street market that usually starts before the first Sunday of Advent and ends before or after Christmas day.  Some are even starting on the first or second week of November especially in countries like England.

If you happened to visit the Strietzelmarkt in Dresden, history mentioned that it was started in 1434. Frankfurt Christmas Market was even mentioned in 1393 and Munich was in 1310. On the other hand Vienna’s “December market” dates back to 1294 which is even earlier than the ones in Germany.

I have been to many Christmas Markets in Europe especially in Germany and still counting to visit more.  The most famous Christmas market you can experience in this country include the ones  in Nuremberg, Dresden, Erfurt, Weimar, Berlin, Heidelberg, Koblenz, Sttutgart, Frankfurt, Wuerzburg, Bamberg  and in more towns and cities in  Germany. You can enjoy a glass of hot mulled wine, Christmas cookies and the famous bratwurst or grilled sausages in any of these markets. This is also the best place to go shopping for Christmas decorations and accessories.

Visiting Christmas Markets in Europe is also a chance to explore these wonderful cities including its sights.   I am  happy that I have  been to some of  the most famous Christmas markets in Europe and  I can’t  wait to visit more Christmas markets  this year!

I wish you a wonderful time visiting Christmas markets in Europe!
