Visiting Kilkenny, Ireland on Winter

It was indeed a memorable trip in Ireland  last winter.  It was a week- holiday and I  was really happy fulfilling  one of the list in my travel wishlist.  The weather was still cold that time.  I never had  a problem because I was  equipped with warm winter clothes and boots.

One of the places we visited during that 7-day trip  was Kilkenny. After a short sightseeing in Cork, we proceeded to this city for  short sightseeing. It lies just 75 miles southwest of Dublin.

Ireland.Kilkenny.CIMG1266The Kilkenny Castle during my trip last March 2013. This stunning Norman Castle, which is the dominant feature in the city, is its principal attraction. It overlooks the River Nore.

There is river that flows through the city and splitting  it into two. It is called the  River Nore.  Most sights of interest lie on the west side of the river.  Kilkenny is considered as  Ireland’s  medieval capital. Aside from its rich cultural heritage, it offers  great shopping opportunities, beautiful street-scapes and exciting vibrant night-life.

I was just sad that I don’t have enough time to explore the many sights in this  city. What is 2 to 3-hours sightseeing there? Inspite of that, I am still glad that I stepped  on this lovely place.

I am glad to  see the Kilkenny castle, the Kilkenny Tourist Office, St. Mary’s Cathedral, Tholsel, Kilkenny Design Centre and more.

If given the chance in the future, I would love to visit Kilkenny again. Wish me luck! Yes, an Irish luck!

I have yet to see a real castle for myself. I do wish to visit Europe someday and set foot on castles like this!
