An open letter to CNN from a retired Filipino Executive

There are a lot of news, reactions and comments from all over the world regarding the slow distribution of help especially to the victims of Typhoon Haiyan, known as Yolanda in the Philippines, in the regions and places that were affected especially in Tacloban.

Last night, I read this open letter circulating through social media especially in facebook. It might take some time reading it but I guess, it is worth your time reading it. I was not able to post it last night because I was already tired and sleepy.

Today, when I was trying visit the source again in this facebook link, https://m.facebook.com/aireen.navarrokhauv/posts/10153544176195565/, it already says below,
“The page you requested cannot be displayed right now. It may be temporarily unavailable, the link you clicked on may be broken or expired, or you may not have permission to view this page.”  Here is the body of the letter and hope we can get something from this. Thanks for your time! God bless Philippines!

“Dear Sirs:

I just wanted to make some comments on the reporting of the CNN International crew here in Manila, regarding the relief efforts for the victims of super-typhoon Haiyan (which we locally call typhoon Yolanda).

First, full disclosure: I am a retired Filipino executive and computer person. I was born in the Philippines and spent all my life here (save for some very short overseas stints connected with my career). I have worked with a large local Philippine utility, started up several entrepreneurial offshore software service companies (when outsourcing was not yet in vogue), and also served as the Philippine country head for a multi-billion dollar Japanese computer company. This diverse work background allows me to always see both the local and global point of view, and to see things from the very different standpoints of a third-world citizen, and a person familiar with first-world mindsets and lifestyles.

I appreciate CNN’s reporting, as it brings this sad news to all corners of the world, and in turn, that helps bring in much needed charity and aid. The tenor and tone of CNN’s reporting has not been very palatable for a local person like me (the focus seems to be on the country’s incompetence). But I shrug that aside, as there is probably some truth to that angle. And in reality, what counts now is that help arrives for the people who need them most; recriminations and blame can come later. Last night, I listened to a CNN reporter wondering about the absence of night flights in Tacloban, in the context of the government not doing enough to bring in relief goods. It was like listening to newbie executives from Tokyo, London or the USA with no real international experience, yet assuming that their country’s rules and circumstances applied equally to the rest of the world. That was the proverbial last straw: I knew I had to react and call your attention to a few things (with some risk, since these topics are not my area of competence): (more…)

Foreign Aid to the Haiyan Typhoon Victims in the Philippines

This is just   quick post.  I would like to share to everyone especially to all Filipinos and most of all to the government officials who will be handling and distributing all the help received  and will be received from different countries, organizations, institutions  and groups worldwide.

Blessings are pouring to the victims of the Haiyan  typhoon in the Philippines at the moment.  It is good to know that in times  like this, people around the world are helping hand in hand especially in times of calamities and tragedies like in the Philippines.

I only would like to share this post shared by a dear  friend  in my facebook wall for everyone to be aware of. Most of all, I am so thankful for all these people, volunteers,  countries, organizations, institutions  and groups worldwide who shared their blessings to the victims of this typhoon in the Philippines.  Thanks a million for your help, generosity and compassion.

I am hoping and praying that all the help for the victims  will go them and not to the pockets  of the corrupt politicians. Filipino people and especially to the government officials in the Philippines, this is a challenge to all of you to prove to the whole world that there are still good  people and honest politicians sitting in the Philippine government. God bless you all! God bless Philippines!

This is what my friend shared in my facebook wall:

“PLEASE SHARE!!!! Corruption is a daily reality that traps millions of people in poverty. It deprives communities of wealth and prevents people from experiencing life to its fullest. Please pray that Christians around the world will play an integral part in speaking out against corruption, whether it is affecting our own communities or the lives of brothers and sisters overseas. Pray that this International Aids …will bring Christians in the Philippines together to expose the scandal of corruption ahead in the our native land. And pray that new laws will be made to challenge the corruption that breeds poverty and mistrust…”

Being a  former banker and accountant, I see some discrepancies in the conversion  of currencies above. I did some corrections of the conversion of the currency which you can see below. I  used  xe.com in converting this as of today. It not really big deal. What is the most important are the  help that these  great nations, charities and organizations  in this world are helping Philippines. I believed the Philippines is so grateful for  all your humanitarian help.

6M UK pounds =Phil. Peso 418,047,848.54

20,000,000.00 NOK = 141,829,283.00 PHP

I hope and pray that the Philippine government and the people who will be distributing this help will be honest enough to give and distribute all the help to all the victims of the Haiyan typhoon and will not corrupt this money in their own pockets.

PRAYERS AND SYMPATHY TO ALL THE FAMILIES WHO LOST THEIR LOVED ONES DURING THE MONSTER TYPHOON HAIYAN or yolanda!
Once again, God bless Philippines!
