Your Guide to a Healthy Heart

Keeping your heart healthy is one of the most important things that you can do to maintain your overall state of health and wellness. After all, without a healthy heart, the rest of your body will suffer. So check out the tips below in order to learn about a few of the easy ways that you can maintain the health and strength of your heart for many years to come.

Take Heart Supporting Supplements

There are a variety of supplements available that can help you support the health of your heart. Cardio care supplements can include coQ10, omega 3 fatty acids, plant sterols, and more. And the good news is that you don’t have to spend a lot of money to get a really high quality supplement that has been proven to work. The right supplement will provide the vital nutrients that your heart needs to stay strong, especially if you are not getting those nutrients from your diet.

Get Enough Exercise

Exercise is extremely important to the health of your heart. Even a moderate amount of activity will work wonders at helping your heart stay strong as you age. The goal should be to keep your heart rate elevated for about 30 minutes if you are doing something that is of moderate intensity. If you are doing a high intensity workout, on the other hand, keep the heart rate up for about 20 minutes instead. And aim to exercise at least five days per week. Whether you prefer biking, running, interval training, weight lifting, or yoga, get cardiovascular activities into your daily schedule to start seeing and feeling results.

Eat Right

The foods that you eat have a huge impact upon your health, and they have an especially large impact upon your cardiovascular system. To maintain the health of your heart muscle and all of your blood vessels, cut back on or eliminate the consumption of processed foods, especially processed meats. You should also increase your intake of whole grains, fruits, vegetables, legumes, beans, and other plant-based sources of protein, carbohydrates, healthy fats, and fibre. The combination of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants from plant-based food sources have been shown to decrease the risk of heart problems, while the over-consumption of meat and dairy has been shown to increase the risk for developing cardiovascular ailments.

Get Regular Check-ups

Finally, make sure that you get an annual check-up at your doctor’s office to stay on top of your health. A blood test and a physical exam can alert you to heart problems that are still in their early stages so that you can fight them off before they develop further and really start causing trouble. For example, if you notice that your cholesterol is a bit too high, you can change your diet and lifestyle to reduce it naturally.

This is just a short guide to keeping your heart healthy. Of course, if you have any questions about your health, you should talk to your doctor.
