Your home is your sanctuary, but after you have been living in it for a few years, it can feel like it’s time for a change. The good news is that you don’t need to do something drastic like find a new apartment or house in order to spruce up your living quarters. In fact, modernizing your home can be quite affordable. Here are some easy ways to freshen up the look of your home.

Get New Linens

You know that feeling of crawling into bed when you’ve just changed out the sheets? Little can make you feel like you’re sleeping in a whole new place like brand new linens. Try to find styles that are completely different from what you have used in the past. Go simplistic.  Some particularly modern choices include white sheets or pastel colors.

Invest in Dimmers

Lights are an essential part of your home, but the limited choices of on or off can get dull over time. Installing a dimmer switch and getting new lightbulbs can be easy. The switch also allows you to change up the lighting in the room at any given time, giving you more options as to how a certain space looks and feels.

Replace Tired Looking Railings

If you have stairs or balconies in your home, you likely have railings, too. Update the look of old, worn out railings by replacing them with modern looking metals like aluminum or steel. Metals are easy to clean and maintain, and aluminum provides the perfect balance of light weight and durability.

Repaint

If you really want a change of scenery, give your walls a new coat of paint. You can stick with a fresh coat of your existing color, if you desire. To really alter the appearance of your home, however, go with something completely new. When you handle the labor yourself, this is one of the most inexpensive ways to drastically spruce up your house.

Change Carpet for Hard Flooring

Little says modern better than hardwood floors. They are fairly easy to keep clean and more sanitary than carpets. You can also do much of the installation yourself, if you have time and wish to research the process. If your carpet is a bit dated, take it out and replace it with hard floors. At the very least, you might consider getting new carpet.

Change Out Your Furniture

You don’t have to replace all your furniture, but try replacing or adding one new piece to make a room in your house really pop. Go colorful and comfortable, just make sure the furniture serves a purpose.
