Visit to the Christmas Market in Bamberg, Germany

One of the best thing to experience in Germany when you visit it during holiday season are the Christmas markets held in the different villages, towns or cities in this country.  It is nice to experience the magical atmosphere during Christmas season through the celebration of the Christmas markets.

I have been to many Christmas markets in Europe but Bamberg has its own beauty and uniqueness. Its Old Town is illuminated especially during the night. Many shops are also full of  Christmas decors. The marketplace at Maxplatz in  Bamberg’s pedestrian zone is filled with stalls selling various products and delicacies. You can smell the aroma of roasted almonds, grilled bratwurst, Glühwein or mulled wine and  Lebkuchen or ginger bread.

Bamberg is  famous  for its abundance of Christmas Cribs on show on its Route of Nativity Scenes. You can find it in museums, churches,  private houses and buildings and on public squares.

We had a walk in some part of the Old Town  including the Maxplatz, the Old Town Hall and Jacobsplatz during our visit. Since our time is limited during that trip and also due to the continuous snow, we really did not see everything but we were happy to experience the market in this UNESCO World Heritage City of Bamberg.

Here are images I  took  during our visit.a stall at the Christmas market in Bamberg that  sells  Glüwein or mulled wine with different flavors.

various food can also be found in many stalls in Bamberg’s Christmas market. Taken last December , 2012.
